We are Brave Healthcare, we aim to revolutionize Indonesiaโs cardiovascular monitoring technology ๐ซ
Below is a video that shows a normal heart beat which shows that you have a normal or healthy heart function.
Unfortunately for me, in 2020 I found out that I have an abnormal heart function that could lead to a deformity of the heart and chance of sudden cardiac death ๐with a condition more well known as arrhythmia.
This is particularly horrifying with a bit of silver lining of relief knowing that only 13% of the population is estimased to have undiagnosed, being diagnosed into having arrhythmia as early as being 19 is a bit of a relief since precaution could be made.
When the doctor found out about my arrhythmia, the doctor asked me to put on this device. This device is called a holter monitor, it records your heart rhtyhm continously to detect abnormalities ๐จโโ๏ธ ๐
There are several problems with the current device solution.
First, it is quite expensive ๐ฐ to rent the device, it costs 70 USD per day to lease the device, the period of renting depends on the doctors request, it could be for only one day and up to a week.
Second, it is quite innaccesible ๐ซ, only available in tier one hospitals. Which means people like me that lives in relatively remote area need to travel long distances to get the device because the hospitals near my home doesnโt have this device, the device is quite scrace because the starting price for a hospital to own the device is really expensive too.
Third, it has a really long waiting list ๐, since the system is bound to create congestion. Just to get the device, the queue could be as long as one month ๐ญ
Even when I got the device, It is really impractical ๐ญ. It consists of a lot of wires and electrodes. I couldnโt even know or see the progress if the device is equipped properly. I couldnโt take a shower ๐ฟ while wearing the device because If i take off the device it will stop recording. I even need to sleep facing upwards so the electrodes doesnโt detached ๐ด.
So then we come up with our own startup, Brave Healthcare. We started in early 2020 and have been developing solutions to tackle cardiac arrhythmia. Below is a video of our first product with a partnership with Borsam Biomedical, Shenzhen. Itโs called an event recorder
Some type of arrhythmia could be asymptomatic and could be symptoms (meaning, showing symptoms) symptoms could be as heart palpitations or shortness of breath ๐ฎโ๐จ. In which during those times, the patient could pull out the event recording device and open Brave application to immediately record their EKG and the abnormalities will show.
Example is at the video above where there is shown to have one particular different graph EKG than the rest.
Our 2nd product enables the use of continuous EKG recording by using an external bracket. So now doctors could prescribe not only an event recorder for patients with rare occurences of arrhythmia (such as subtype of arrhythmia called SVT) but doctors could also prescribe our device for the need of continuous for the subtype of arrhythmia that need to be counted the severity of like PVC).
Using our technology, for patients it is more practical thanks to the lightweight design. It could also be setup individually without the need of physical medical practitioner to wear the device. ๐
The device and any progress of their health rhythm could also be seen in the mobile application, so if thereโs any detached electrodes the patient will immediately realized and error could be minimized. ( โโฟโ )
Managing the dispersed patients and uneven distribution of doctors and hospitals, Brave Healthcare is built to be IoT-enabled, the EKG recordings, analysis and health data using Brave Application could be sent to their physician and cardiologist remotely.
By being IoT-enabled, patients no longer need to travel far distances just to obtain the recording device / holter monitor, rather the device could be shipped to their house and the results can be done by consultation with physician near their home. We are making EKG recording devices to be accesible. ๐
We are also able to make the price of our solution be affordable for the patients without risking our company profitability. For patients it costs up to 50% less than the current device in the market.
As for our market size, could be seen in the picture below.
Brave devices could obtained in two general ways.
Through hospitals and clinics that we have partnered, so patients that are adviced to have a continous heart rhythm check ups or monitoring can obtain our device direclty in their hospital.
Or even if the doctor prescribe to use brave device but they dont store it at their hospital, it is still obtainable through our website to order, the result of the recording of the device will still be diagnosed by the doctor that prescribed the patient the device.
Our business model is by leasing the device, when a patient is prescribed to use an EKG recording device it is usually determined by the doctor the period of the usage. The purpose is to gain as much as data of the patients heart rhythm but the requirement of the sufficient data may varies based on certain conditions and the patients capability to lease the device.
We charge the patient 40 USD per day to use the device, 50% cheaper than the conventional solution in hospital which costs up to 80 USD per day. In which we took 16% commission of each transaction, the rest of the share is for the doctors, hospitals, and distribution partner.
We are aiming to enable IoT and improve the overall infrastructure of healthcare at a very undeveloped niched of cardiac arrhythmia detection and monitoring in Indonesia. We believe that we have significant edge of our technology compared to the existing competition.
Our current timeline as of now is to focus on technology development and publishing academic research and clinical use cases using our technology. We are currently testing and validating our technology to meet up with industry standards.
We are composed of two active founders. We have been working for Brave since early 2020, Brave have had a very long road from creating our own hardware to sourcing manufacturing from overseas partner. Good thing that the system that we built allow our software application to integrate with any hardware outside brave ecosystem as long as it could connect via bluetooth.
Through the development of Brave, we have won many notable awards such as Swiss Innovation Challenge that was held by FNHW Switzerland and many national awards given by local startup incubators.
